Prahar Mitra

I am a postdoctoral scholar at the Institute of Physics at the University of Amsterdam. My research focuses on the connection between asymptotic symmetries in flat spacetimes and soft theorems in quantum field theories, as well as its connection to memory effects and black hole information. Previously, I was a postdoctoral scholar at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics at the University of Cambridge (2020-2023) and at the School of Natural Sciences at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton (2017-2020). I received my Ph.D. in Physics at the Center for Fundamental Laws of Nature in the Physics Department at Harvard University under Andrew Strominger. My thesis entitled Asymptotic Symmetries in Four-Dimensional Gauge and Gravity Theories studies the connection between asymptotic symmetries in flat spacetimes and soft theorems.

I completed my undergraduate studies at Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani in India where I obtained a dual degree in Integrated M.Sc. Physics and B.E. Electrical and Electronics Engineering. My Master's thesis advisor was Shiraz Minwalla at the Department of Theoretical Physics in Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai.

Research Interests: String Theory, Quantum Gravity, Asymptotic Symmetries in Flat Spacetimes, Black Hole Information.
